Wedding Photographers

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make.   Your wedding will last one day, while your photographs will last a lifetime.   Your investment in selecting the right photographer for your day is as important as the investment of having a professional to capture those images.   Take the time to do detailed research using the many resources available to you.

Now that you have researched and made a working list, (reasonably at least 2 to 3 photographers), contact them and request information about their wedding services.   It is normal for photographers (as well as other wedding vendors) to be booked months in advance, so a few questions to ask with your initial contact are:

Are you available on my wedding date?  You can check your date instantly with our availability checker !

How flexible is your schedule to view work and meet in person?  We're available days, nights, and some weekends.

Can you tell me a little about your photography and the services you offer?

Are you familiar with my ceremony and/or reception site?

It's helpful to supply information as to your bridal party size, location of events, expected guest list and special photography requests.   This should generate conversation which will either interest you in the services a particular photographer has to offer or not, allowing you to prioritize your choices.

Make Appointments

The next step is to make appointments with the photographers who have appealed to you the most.   It can be difficult for couples with hectic work schedules and other commitments to always have time together.   Your photographer(s) should be able to arrange an appointment that's convenient for both of you as well as any family members or friends who would like to attend.   If a photographer can not accommodate your initial appointment needs, how flexible will he or she be on your wedding day?

The appointment is your opportunity to view a photographer's work, their creativity, and much more.   It is your chance to observe their personalities, demeanor, and people skills.   Unlike other services, the photographer(s) will be with you the majority of your day.   It's important to know that you, your family, and friends will feel comfortable and enjoy the various photo sessions.   Many times a couple will know the chemistry is right from the initial consultation.

FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

The following are some questions that during your appointment should be asked and answered to your satisfaction.   Most photographers will supply  information as part of their presentation, but be sure to ask all the questions you want.

How long have you been photographing weddings and do you do this full time?

Photographers who only moonlight or have another full time job have much less to lose if a couple should be unhappy.   His or her livelihood and reputation are not controlled by their photographic income or services they deliver.   The equipment they may use, such as; cameras, film types, and how images are processed and printed may be inferior to full time photographers who invest in professional gear and professional printing labs.

How many weddings do you book per day?

A couple's wedding photography should represent the story of their day.   A photographer who takes more than one event per day can not provide that type of coverage.  We only book one event per day.

Who will actually photograph our wedding?

In today's photography market, some studios employ several photographers per date in order to have multiple bookings.   Be careful that you're interviewing the photographer(s) who will be capturing your day as well as viewing their images & albums.   You may be viewing more than one photographers work from the studio's staff.

Do you belong to any professional organizations?

Although there are many professionals who do not belong to any associations, usually these organizations have some formal recognition and professional requirements as well as a code of ethics.

Do you carry wedding albums?

Most professional photographers carry exclusive album lines that are not available to the general public.   They may offer more than one line of professional albums.  We offer several line of albums in our studio.

Do you dress appropriately?

You may laugh, but we had a couple say they saw a photographer at a wedding in sweats!  We always dress appropriately as to blend in with your crowd in order to get the best photos.

How often do we meet to go over wedding details?

As often as you need to feel comfortable, but you should expect to meet at least a month before your wedding date to go over any last minute details.   This includes visiting any locations that the couple or photographer(s) are not familiar with as well as prepare a timeline of the day's scheduled events.

Many bridal journals and magazines have a checklist of questions to ask the photographer as well as other vendor services.   Please use our free resources at the bottom of the page including a free printable wedding checklist.

The Contract

The contract protects both the couple and the photographer from any unforeseen circumstances.   It should contain information on what is being provided for service along with the responsibilities of the photographer(s).   It will also contain information on the amount of retainer required, payment details, cancellation policies, copyright law, and usage rights.   Avoid all vendors that don't offer a contract to secure their services for your wedding date.

We hope you will use this as another resource in the planning of your special day.   When it comes to selecting the right photographer(s) for your wedding day,  knowledge is power.   Visit to view gallery pages or to read some of the numerous testimonials we have received and please...share our site with your family and friends.
