Double-Take Photography would like to introduce you to Nichole Jones, a high school senior at Lisbon High School and a member of the graduating class of 2014. As adults we often hear or see news which depicts the next generation of high school graduates as less than ambitious or lacking drive and direction. The result is we are bombarded with the negatives and shortcomings of the current generation of students and unfortunately lost in the shuffle are the positive stories of today’s youth, overlooked for not being deemed newsworthy or sensational enough. We had the good fortune of photographing Nichole’s senior pictures this past fall at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

We would like to share the release put out by Community Resources of the Lisbon High School Department.

Lisbon – Principal Kenneth Healey of Lisbon High School announced today Nichole Jones, a member of the Class of 2014, has been selected to receive the 2014 Principal’s Award.  The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.  Nichole is the daughter of Lhu and Brian Jones of Lisbon Falls.

“Nichole has provided service above self in our community as a young adult volunteer in Lisbon Schools,” shares Healey.  “She exudes leadership, compassion, dedication and caring to make significant contributions in the classroom and on the playing field.  She defines commitment assisting with Special Olympics and serving as co-student editor of the Yearbook.   Nichole was recently named a Mountain Valley Conference Academic All-Star in Field Hockey. Nichole provides excellence in all she embarks upon.”

Nichole and Principal Healey and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler.  Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.  This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament and support from Berlin City Auto.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.

The 3rd annual Bridal & Event Showcase was a huge success with over 80 registered brides and more than 200 attendees. Double-Take Photography would like to express our appreciation to The Captain’s Galley Restaurant & Banquet Center for providing a beautiful venue and for serving some of our favorite hors d’ourves. We would also like to thank all this year’s participating companies for sharing their time and expertise and we are already looking forward to planning an even bigger event for next year!

The crowds started filing in early and did not stop until the showcase ended. The room was filled with the buzz of conversions and there was little time to take a breath! We hope that every exhibitor had a opportunity to interact with those in attendance, make some good connections and network with the other professionals that participated. Planning for the 2015 Bridal & Event Showcase will start in just a few months with hopes that we can provide those that attend even more services, products, and choices.

Thank you to the companies who donated prizes and products to this years’ drawings and to all who provided show specials that made the day so wonderful. We were thrilled to see such a diverse & generous selection of gifted products and services, in addition to the Kindle Fire HD.

Helpful Hints & Tips For Attending Bridal Shows or Wedding Expos!

Well it’s that time of year again, typically from  the beginning of January thru the end of April there are bridal shows and wedding expos happening just about every weekend. If you are a couple planning a wedding or are putting together an anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, or any special event please apply these useful hints and tips to held guide the way.

HELPFUL HINT #1: When attending a Bridal Show or Event Showcase bring a STAMP or make LABELS with your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, E-MAIL, and Wedding/Event DATE printed on them – many exhibitors, as well as the show producer have drawings to enter – This will save you time and most certainly prevent writer’s cramp!

HELPFUL HINT #2: Think ahead and be prepared with a few important items! Swatches of material or colored ribbons are helpful when discussing your wedding/event with florists, bakers, formal wear, or party shops. You may also want to schedule appointments, purchase products, or contract services with some of the professional, so bring your date book along with a checkbook or credit card.

HELPFUL HINT #3: Prioritize your Wedding/Event needs based on how much lead time might be required to secure services or order products. Some professionals can only commit to one wedding or two events within a given day and will, therefore, be booked more quickly. Venues, Photographers, DJs, Consultants and some Florists are a few examples of services that that book several months to a year, or more in advance.

HELPFUL HINT #3: Set your priorities and create a realistic budget! Make a WISH LIST of the products and services that you need or want the most – then, prioritize that list along with the associated budget for each category.

2014 Bridal Show and Event Showcase!

Well it’s that time of year again, we are busy planning our third annual Bridal Show and Event Showcase scheduled for March 30, 2014 to be held at the Captain’s Galley in Old Orchard Beach. If you are a couple planning a wedding or are putting together an anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, or any special event please join us for an absolutely wonderful show.  Many wedding and event experts will be on hand to answer your questions and share information about their services as well as a live broadcast by Hot 104.7. The Captain’s Galley will have an array of food and appetizer samples (last years food was awesome delicious ), cash bar, prizes and show specials by participating vendors, free swag from Hot 104.7, and a grand prize drawing of a Kindle Fire HD to one lucky winner. Admission is free… so come spend an afternoon by the beach in Old Orchard and join us on Sunday, March 30th from 11:30AM to 3:00PM and be sure to tell your friends too.
